Stepping of the Mast

"In sailboating and shipbuilding, Mast Stepping is the process of raising the boat's mast. It also refers to a ceremonial occasion which occurs when the mast is stepped, towards the end of a ship's construction. The ceremony involves placing or welding one or more coins into the mast step of a ship, and is seen as an important ceremonial occasion in a ship's construction which is thought to bring good luck."  -Wikipedia

The mast having shipped in two pieces, with the spreaders, shrouds, and all other cables, lines, sheets, etc, along with the radar, infrared camera, lights and other necessary electronics in separate pieces, made for two and a half days of complex and lengthy installation.  Fortunately for all involved the weather was in full cooperation, and mid-afternoon on Thursday (Oct. 11) the mast was ready to be hoisted into position.

An impromptu ceremony took place, where it was strongly suggested we place a coin, preferably a Canadian dime (featuring the 1921 schooner Bluenose) under the foot of the mast.  I found a shiny, brand spanking new 2018 dime in my wallet, and secured it (as instructed) heads up for good luck!

Thanks so much to the expert team at Fraser Yacht Sales who made this all come together seemingly seamlessly!
