Aurora's Journey to Vancouver

Aurora was built at the Lagoon factory in France in the spring of 2018. Our broker from Fraser Yacht Sales (on Granville Island, BC) flew out to the factory in June to complete a multi-day final inspection on our behalf.

For a number of reasons we decided to have the vessel shipped to Vancouver, BC, instead of having it sailed (costs work out to be similar). How do you ship a 52' long, 28' wide catamaran, with a mast over 90' tall? On a good ol' freighter, with the mast and rigging wrapped up on the deck! A crew motored Aurora from La Rochelle, France to Antwerp, Belgium, where she was loaded onto the freighter Star Hidra (sailing under the Norwegian flag).

We are able to track the freighter's progress as it travels across the Atlantic and makes it's way to the Panama Canal, and then up the west coast of Central and North America. The anticipated arrival in Vancouver is September 24. Fraser Yacht Sales will be taking possession of the vessel at the port, and will motor her to Granville Island where she will be rigged and outfitted with a number of additions and modifications.

Today, August 30, our catamaran was transported through the locks at the Panama Canal.  Her final journey up the west coast of North America begins!
